Biography
Emma Bamford, a hand therapist and extended scope practitioner at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby, has been working there since 2008 and became an ESP in 2018. She is a physiotherapist with a special interest in treating acute traumatic injuries like complex fractures and tendon injuries, particularly flexor tendon injuries.
Emma serves on the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) trauma committee and was an expert panelist at the European Hand Conference in 2020.
With a strong interest in research, Emma spent two years with a dedicated research team at the Pulvertaft Hand Centre. In 2019, she received a grant from the British Association of Hand Therapists to study the use of splints in rehabilitating flexor tendon repairs. She leads the NIHR HTA Co-Chief Investigator @FIRST at the University of Derby.
Emma will be presenting on the Pulvertaft Hand Unit’s experience with the relative motion flexion splint for zone I/II flexor tendon repairs and discussing current concepts in finger flexor tendon rehabilitation, including an update on the FIRST trial.
