Session 4 – Rowing the Atlantic solo – oarsman’s wrist
Mel Eissens, a European Certified Hand Therapist, works at the Kantonsspital Winterthur in the Therapies and Rehabilitation Department in Winterthur, Switzerland. A research project introduced her to ocean rowing, eventually leading her to become the first Dutch solo woman to participate in the World’s Toughest Row – Atlantic.
Her presentation will explore her extraordinary journey of endurance and, ironically, hand function. Mel will share her experiences and propose an algorithm to help future ocean rowers prevent and maintain hand function during such a mega challenge.
